I believe the pros of being a older athlete are you have more experience . Due to your experience you understand the game better as of compared to a new comer. You are respected more by the younger athletes. They probably look up to you more as well. The down side of being older is even though you know the game better , you cannot play it like you used to. The younger athletes might look up to you as a leader but they won't look at you and say " hey i want to play like him" probably because you are old , slow, and in a lot of pain. Understand when you're in your prime athletic preforming years and also understand when you are in your last years. Don't ever try to relive the Good Old Glory Days at 35 years old
ReplyDeleteThat was well written, and that is a great way to explain the pros and cons to playing sports at an older age, and why they retire at such a young age from playing sports.
DeleteI actually have thought about why athletes retire at such young ages from the sport they once played. I highly believe that the pros to having an older person playing the sport is that they'll know the game and can best help out the rookies in what field they need help in when playing that sport. They especially have a lot more knowledge then the other players on the team and can be useful for information when needed. There happens to be cons to this subject as well...of having an older person playing in the sports. They may or may not be as stable as a young person and able to move as fast. There is a bit more injures that are able to happen in their future if playing a sport as an older adult instead of a young adult.
ReplyDeleteI think some cons of being a older athlete would be that your probably not as coordinated as you use to be or as flexible. But the pros of being an older athlete would be that you have done it for a while so you know how everything works, And you probably really good since you have been doing it longer and you had more experience with that sport. But I thought about why some athletes retire at a young age and I think its because some of them make certain goals to go the olympics or something like that. And if they usually achieve that dream they usually decide to quit because they got where they wanted to go, And some might also retire young because they didn't get as far as they wanted to and they just decide to give up.
ReplyDeleteI agree that if you are an older athlete you probably don't have as much coordination as you think you do. I have also experienced this my my life so i would completely agree that we are not as athletic as younger kids.
Deletei agree because when your older you can't do things just like if you fall and can't get up like life alert.
DeleteI believe that if other think you are fit enough to compete. Obviously no matter what if your healthy or not if your 95 years old and you want to play. You cannot because your not strong enough. You will probably be slower. If you were old then join a old person league.
ReplyDeleteSome cons to being a older athlete is you move slower and break things easier, but if they still have got it they should be able to play.Older athletes play because they love the sport, you shouldn't have to tell someone to stop play a sport if there getting to old to play they should be realistic and stop. Some pros to playing are you know the game better than younger athletes just coming in, and not all young people are stronger but they might be able to recover faster from injuries.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion just because your older and have bitter bones doesn't mean you can't play a sport. Any younger person who gets hurt can have a bitter bone that you have to be careful with. Age doesn't matter as long as you can follow rules and understand what to do and not to do you should be able to play. If they get hurt at least they got hurt doing something they love.
ReplyDeleteI agree it all depends on the person not their age.
Deletei agree with this statement because why quit if you really love a sport but i also believe you should take it slow cause even though were all human and older people have a higher percentage of being hurt
DeleteI think that older athletes need to have a set time to leave the game maybe not as young as they have it now but older people are more likely to get hurt and its not worth risking injury however an older athlete would bring more experience to the game but overall i think that they need a set time to stop.
ReplyDeleteI agree, that you have to have a set time to leave the game as an older athlete. Older athletes have a higher risk of getting hurt and should have a certain age to retire and leave the game.
DeleteI agree with this, athletes should really have an age that they want to retire, even though they would have more experience the older they get, bones do get fragile the older you get.
DeleteSome pros of older athletes staying in the game are: They have passion and confidence in what they do. They stay fit and healthy. Some cons of older athletes is that they can break their bones easier, and sprain easier. They are more fragile too.
ReplyDeleteTo me athletes should be able to play as long as they want and can. Athletes shouldn't have to be certain age to discontinue or continue a sport. It all matters on the shape their in, and if they still got game. I would understand maybe a 70 year old who is strong but not as fast as he/she used to be to where they can't and won't play then that is the right time to retire. You never know somebody who is 70 can be way better than a 20-45 year old.
ReplyDeleteI agree on how you say there should not be a certain age. I believe there shouldn't be a certain age that you have to retire on your favorite sport, your at least the sport you are playing.
DeleteI believe that as an older athlete you should keep playing if you're contributing to your team. But from other perspective if you are out of shape and can't play like you
ReplyDeleteused to then don't go back to playing sports cause you will be putting yourself and others in danger and you won't be helping that team .I believe that older players shouldn't play
In my opinion athletes should play as long as they feel they can. People think there is a certain age but there is really not it when you can't play anymore. If your bones are breaking and your a lot slower then thats a good time to stop. But if your still going and your good still then you shouldn't stop.
ReplyDeleteAthletes retire at a younger age because they have money athletes the cons of staying in the sport are definitely getting injured or hurt very bad , not playing as well as you use too etc. i also think even though theres a risk that you should continue the sports if you love it.
ReplyDeleteAthletes retire at a younger age because the sports do damage to your body, and it can't take all of that crap for longer.
ReplyDeletePros: U be gittin money
Cons: Sports are horrible........
I've wondered why some professional athletes tend to retire from sports, but the older you get the weaker your bones get. If athletes are to stay on the team till they are old and can't play anymore, they would have more knowledge, and you'd be able to inform new players. Plus, you'd stay so fit, and have more muscle, rather than sitting on your butt all day. Also, you'd be one of the better players throughout the years. Some cons of staying on the team, it would be easier for you to get hurt. Some athletes feel as if they should retire early, and some feel they should play till they can't play anymore. I think athletes should retire at 40-50 years old and start to settle down with their lives.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion athletes should play as long as they feel they can. I think that older athletes need to have a set time to leave the game. I believe that if others think you are fit enough to compete and you know you are healthy and strong enough to handle it, you obviously shouldn't stop what you love. Also athletes might retire at a younger age because they have money and they might not want to risk getting injured.
